Balancing Act: Nurturing Your Mental Health as an Entrepreneur

My son and I woke up early on Sunday morning, had coffee (he had milk) and cuddles, went to the beach, threw rocks, found sticks, played at the park, chased geese, got donuts and every second of that time filled my soul with everything it needed.
I had a high anxiety week leading up to this joyous morning and it got me thinking about how overwhelmed I often feel to be all the things and the self imposed pressure to be spectacular at every one of them.
I’m more aware than ever of the mental/emotional toll being an entrepreneur and the obligation of social media has on me, and I know I’m not alone.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the socials. What an amazing opportunity it is to create, connect and share what you love with the world, for free, in your own way. But it can become all consuming. The ever changing algorithm, staying up to date on reel transitions and trending sounds… can leave you feeling like you’re always one step behind.
Protecting our mental space, while still showing up, is a topic that I feel is not discussed enough!
As a hairstylist, I really just want to do hair. But in this time of modern marketing, there is no choice but to run at least one social media account, and before you know it you have two full time jobs.
Setting boundaries and being aware of the time and mental strain is the first step to having a healthier relationship with this aspect of business.
I do believe there are ways to have a balanced relationship with your real life and your life on IG. Things like auditing who you’re following and time blocking your content creation are great ways to take control of the situation, rather than feeling run by it. Putting limitations on your own screen time and scheduling a day on your calendar to enjoy a hobby or just relax will help level the playing field. More ideas like this are available in a free resource I put together, you can pick up my Social Media Mental Health Checklist here.
I want this community to be a resource to support one another as we juggle home life, work life and our relationship with marketing our businesses. The pressure to perform is real and our business relies on it! But our mental space, mindset and the way we feel is most important and should be prioritized over everything else.
Let’s normalize taking time for ourselves. Let’s prioritize time away from our laptops and cell phones. Let’s discuss our struggles and put our beautiful minds together to find solutions and have the support we need to continue our endeavors in a healthy and sustainable way!
I want to hear from you. Share in the comments how you’re feeling this week and let's work together to find ways to keep our mindsets motivated, creative and positive.
